Designing team uniforms is a process that involves some trial and error, but with a clear vision, plus input and collaboration from your team, you can come up with a design that stands out. Designing new team uniforms in Massachusetts? Here are some design tips to help you stand out from the crowd.
Pick a few colors.
When designing your new uniforms, you want to think about the spectators who will be watching you from a distance. Start with your base team color for the items themselves, whether it’s jerseys, joggers, hoodies, or something else. Then pick one or two (but no more) complementary colors for your images and accents, including the logo and lettering. Adding too many colors will make the design busy and hard to identify from a distance.
Use bold, legible fonts.
Again, we’re thinking about people reading your uniforms from a distance. You want them to be able to read your team name and the names of your players. There are classic fonts that many teams stick with because they know they are legible. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with your font choice as long as the spectators can read it.
Get input from your team.
Your team members are the people who are going to be wearing the uniforms, so get their input. If you are designing something from scratch, ask them what colors and designs they like. If your team has been around for a while, but you need a new logo, see if you have any artistic team members who want to give it a shot. Your team will be proud to wear uniforms they had a hand in designing.
Keep trying until you get it right.
You can’t escape a little trial and error. There’s nothing to worry about if you don’t get it right on your first try. Come up with four or five designs you like and have sample uniforms made so you can see what they look like. Eliminate the designs that don’t work and have your team vote on their favorite, or have the coach and the captain pick.
